Of the three Liberal Democrat candidates shortlisted for the Ludlow constituency, Matthew Green emerged as the outright winner last night (25 February) at the final well-attended hustings held in Tasley Village Hall (Bridgnorth). He will now become the official parliamentary spokesman for the party in the Ludlow constituency.
David Phillips, the Returning Officer, said Matthew's election was the first LibDem contest of a non-elected MP to be held since the general election, and would ensure the maximum time for a campaign to win back the seat from the Conservatives.
At the meeting before the final vote, Matthew set out his record as an MP in the previous parliament, and what he had been proud to achieve as a new member there. Living in Much Wenlock, he confirmed that he was fully committed to Shropshire, and listed the actions necessary to ensure that LibDems regained the Ludlow seat at the next general election.
