Cllr Karen Blundell is currently Mayor of the Borough. She has lived in the Borough for most of her life, and is proud to be representing its diverse and vibrant community. The aim of the Mayoral Fund is to raise money for the benefit of local voluntary organisations and charities. Priority is given to projects which focus on social need, disadvantage and deprivation. The fund also reflects the particular interests and themes of each Mayor, and will address children and young people, the elderly and vulnerable, and those with special needs.
Karen hopes to provide action in the community to help eradicate problems caused by long-term illnesses and heart problems. She also supports healthy living activities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. The aim is to build a community that is 'Fit for the Future'. Karen is married to Alan, her Mayoral consort, and she has three children who attend local schools. She has a passion for wildlife, nature and history, and her family are members of the Shrewsbury & Newport Canals Trust. Karen also enjoys cooking, travelling and music. As a Liberal Democrat, she hopes to inspire others to become involved in all aspects of their community, and is sponsoring a Hollywood Oscars Ball at Hadley Park House on 23 April.
