A by-election is to be held in the Central Ward of Lawley & Overdale Parish Council on 11 March. Voting will take place at the Carpenter Centre, Oak Road, Overdale, and the Dawley Bank Baptist Church . Nominations closed at noon on Friday 12 February, and two candidates put their names forward for election. Deborah Crane is standing for the Liberal Democrats. She lives in Dawley Bank, and is the only local candidate contesting the seat on the Parish Council.
Deborah is an IT professional, and works as a business intelligence manager, having moved to Telford when she took up the post a few years ago. She believes it is important that local people get involved in their local area, and now her son has gone off to college, she has more time to make a commitment to the community.
Over the next decade the area will be transformed by new developments, and it is important that existing communities are not neglected in favour of the new. Local schools, shops and other communal facilities need to address future needs, improving on the best that we already have. Deborah fully supports the application for village green status by the Parish Council, and encourages local people to participate in the decisions that will affect the future of Lawley & Overdale.
